# Total CGPA Calculator - Marks & Percentage to CGPA or CGPA to Percentage Converter and Conversion online

CGPA to Percentage Converter - CBSE formula is we need to multiply CGPA with 9.5 that will give us the percentage and divided percentage with 9.5 that will give us the CGPA. Some engineering colleges have other formula that is multiply CGPA with 10 that will give us the percentage.

Cumulative Grade Point Average is Kown as CGPA, it is is a educational grading system. CGPA is the average grade point of the student performance in all the subjects excluding the additional Subject. The subject wise performance of the students is recorded in forms of Grades.
It was introduced in the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) System for Class X.
In India, the grade point system is on the maximum to be 10, in American Universities it is maximum CGPA of 4. so it is different in different Country Educational systems.

The grading system was invented by the William Farish, a teacher in the Cambridge University, England in 1972. He actually wants to know that what is going in the mind of the students, whether they got the topic or not. Before 2011, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had criteria for rewarding marks. In 2011, it replaced the criteria to the CGPA system.

## How to calculate CGPA?

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has a curriculum where five subjects are compulsary and one is optional.

### TO CALCULATE AVERAGE CGPA

Assume the grade points of the 6 subjects as
Sub-1, Sub-2, Sub-3, Sub-4, Sub-5, Sub-6
Grade point(GP)=Sub-1 + Sub-2 + Sub-3 + Sub-4 + Sub-5 + Sub-6
CGPA = Grade point / 6

Example
Grade point = 10 + 9 + 10 + 8 + 10 + 9
CGPA = 56 / 6
CGPA = 9.3

### TO CALCULATE PERCENTAGE USING CGPA OBTAINED

Percentage = (CGPA x 9.5)
Example
CGPA = 9.3
Percentage = 9.3 x 9.5
Percentage = 88.35%

### TO CALCULATE CGPA USING THE PERCENTAGE

CGPA = (Percentage / 9.5)
Example
Percentage = 85.1
CGPA = 85.1 / 9.5
CGPA = 8.9

## What is the purpose of grading or CGPA?

It will minimize misclassification of students on the basis of marks. It will reduce societal pressure and will provide the learner with more flexibility. Due to this reason, the CGPA system is also used in some of the bachelor's and Master's Degree.

### How is it different from GPA?

GPA is used for grading for a single semester while CGPA accumulates the total marks and total credits across all the semesters. GPA is for a shorter time period, for a semester or a term maybe whereas CGPA cover a longer academic duration, for example, the entire duration of a bachelor’s degree including all the semesters.

Grading systems provide a standard measurement for assessing students and hierarchically categorizing them into groups based on their knowledge/qualities/skills etc.

1. Takes the pressure off from the students at certain levels.
2. Gives the students an obvious idea about their weaknesses and strengths.
3. Leads to a better rendezvous of ideas.
4. This system will eliminate the competition between the achievers and higher achievers.
5. It reduces the stress of the students, when comparing marks in different subject specially Physics and Maths which are considered to be the toughest subjects.
6. Helps the students, teachers, parents to judge the level of students understanding.

1. It doesn’t instil a sense of competition 2. Demotivation - Grading system demotivates the students who perform higher because they stand equal to those making less efforts.
3. Not an accurate representation of the performance and the knowledge gained
4. Lack of incentives
5. Topper of the class will not be noticed in the grading system as all get the same grade A1.
6. Decreased Performance - Due to grading system, children tend to perform less.

#### CGPA calculated in percentage in engineering

To convert Percentage to CGPA, you just need to divide the percentage by 9.5 and the outcome will be your CGPA. lots of colleges used this method for CGPA Calculation. This formula is used by companies such as TCS, Infosys, and some others.
However, many companies prefer the formula -
percentage = CGPA*9.5.

#### Why multiply with 9.5 only?

The Board took the result of the last five years and calculated the average marks of all candidates who had scored between 91 and 100. That average turned out to be close to 95 marks. Since the equivalent Grade Point for the 91-100 band (A1 grade) of marks is 10, it then divided the average result of 95 by 10. The result is 9.5.
